Not gonna lie, they had us in the first half – development had seemingly stalled for the first half of this year, but after taking some more initiative, I’m proud to report we’re back on track. Since coming to terms with the fact we’d need to make our own HUD, we’ve successfully:

  • Developed a core HUD tied into WordPress itself, allowing users to sign in using a single sign on (SSO) tied into Second Life; this means no passwords, emails, etc are stored by us.
  • Implemented an advanced character creation system with species selection, empire and homeworld selection, and trait/stats selection, all of which impact core mechanics, roleplay, or combat.
  • Implemented an items and currency system that will allow for multiple currencies, trade and barter, NPC trade and more.
  • Implemented a fully server-side NPC system that allows storytellers and admins to assign NPCs with predefined stats to objects, or directly assume control (“play as”) an NPC themselves, then return that NPC to the server “pool” when completed.
  • Implemented the bones of a Faction system which will allow faction banking, item storage, pay, and more.
  • Implemented the beginnings of a player-ran Company system (our equivalent to “player networks”) that will allow users to create their own companies, join other players companies, engage in company banking and more.
  • Fully automated combat, both PvP and PvE.
  • And more!

Still much to do

We’re not quite to a place where we can declare a true open date yet; There remains a lot of work including:

  • Building out the sim; the main Station ‘promenade’ area is a custom asset in Blender that still needs physics and texturing. Thanks to Valerya/Vex and Madrona for working so tirelessly on this.
  • Lore still needs wrapped up
  • On the HUD side, we want to implement the barebones for spaceship ownership and management. Ship combat will likely be at some point after launch.
  • Testing and systems optimization

How can I help?

We’re still looking for people to help with graphic design/art, lore, and more. We’d also really appreciate reaching out to your friends about the project; as we enter the (hopefully) final stretches, we will need help with faction leadership, storytellers, etc; and more people helps!
